Lead Mentor for Art Class.
Hello All! I am so excited be the Art mentor with the Sapphires, Amethysts, Emeralds & Opals!
I graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design, class of 2009 with a BFA in Graphic Design with an emphasis on illustration. Post grad I worked as a display coordinator at Anthropologie creating large scale art installations, then I airbrushed life sized robotic dinosaurs. After that I taught art for after school programs as well as private art lessons. Currently I work mostly as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator and work with a handful of private art students.
I love working with kids and see them flourish within the arts, whether it is within self expression or honing in on specific skills. There is something for everybody in the visual arts and I feel very strongly that, no matter what you do, as long as you try, there is something there to discover. I love identifying what a students strength is, and exposing them to a broad array of styles and materials so that they can dive deeper into their artistic journey. My favorite materials to work with (personally) are watercolors, pen and ink, clay, markers, and digitally.
I hope that students walk away from my class with a deeper understanding of art history, how art can fit into their lives- even when they do not consider themselves to be an artist, and a deeper understanding of techniques, materials, and application. I love intermingling arts with other subject matters, so it will be really fun to see how that unfolds this year in collaboration with other mentors.
I am thrilled to be working with these kids and imparting to them the many lessons I've learned on my own personal journey with the arts.
