Lead Art Mentor.

Jen Carnes is so excited to be the Art mentor with the Sapphires, Amethysts, Emeralds & Opals!

Jen graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design, class of 2009 with a BFA in Graphic Design with an emphasis on illustration. Post grad she worked as a display coordinator at Anthropologie creating large scale art installations, then she airbrushed life sized robotic dinosaurs. After that, Jen taught art for after school programs as well as private art lessons. Currently she also works as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator, and works with a handful of private art students.

Jen loves working with kids and sees them flourish within the arts, whether it is within self expression or honing in on specific skills. There is something for everybody in the visual arts and she feels very strongly that, no matter what you do, as long as you try, there is something there to discover. She loves identifying what a student's strength is, and exposing them to a broad array of styles and materials so that they can dive deeper into their artistic journey. Her favorite materials to work with (personally) are watercolors, pen and ink, clay, markers, and digitally.

She hopes that students walk away from her class with a deeper understanding of art history, how art can fit into their lives- even when they do not consider themselves to be an artist, and a deeper understanding of techniques, materials, and application. She loves intermingling arts with other subject matters and seeing how that unfolds in collaboration with other mentors.

She is thrilled to be working with these kids and imparting to them the many lessons she's learned on her own personal journey with the arts.
