Michael Hardin is very honored to serve as a Music Mentor for WLLC. Michael will be focusing on teaching music on the Marimbas. “Mr. Mike” loves the way that the marimba can be a vehicle for novices to learn to play music with minimal technical prerequisites. Michael graduated from St. Stephen’s Episcopal School in Austin Texas in 1999. There he sang in the St. Stephen’s A Cappella Madrigal Choir. He studied musical composition for two years at the University of North Texas at Denton. Michael plays guitar and marimba with ‘Rattletree’ a local Austin band and two time winner of The Austin Chronicle’s fan voted Best World Music Band (2016 & 2017). Rattletree often perform at Austin music festivals including the Austin City Limits (ACL) Festival and SXSW. Michael has formerly taught Marimba music to students young and old with diverse musical backgrounds at the Rattletree School of Marimba at their studio in South Austin. He is also a member of Kupira Marimba, the Rattletree School’s acoustic marimba band. Michael also has a passion for playing and teaching the guitar, especially jazz guitar. “Mr. Mike” is eager to explore with his students the many lessons that musical study has for us that we can use in our lives beyond the practice room or the band stand.
